Things go pretty efficiently the last day..the bags were picked up right after 8 am. That gave us enough time to do Marios for breakfast for the first time. I usually didn't wake up till after ten during the trip and mostly skipped breakfasts. The food was simply ok at Marios for breakfast.
After that we got our plastic bottles and filled them with sand, watched some more death and destruction of the Haiti earthquake on tv and hit the departure lounge about 10:30. Our bags were there and we were on our way shortly....we ended up leaving right about 11 am. We were quickly at the airport. The driver left so quickly I didn't have a chance to give him a tip. As we were pulling up there were literally three guys running after our van with metal carts. I had to get our bags off the carts as the guys were just pulling out bags and putting them on the carts randomly. You only need to walk about 30 feet to the door and my carry on had wheels. I didn't need a cart.
We stood in a short line at the Delta counter, checked our carry ons and started to walk away when we were told that they needed us to follow this lady. She took us in this small, dirty back room where one of our three bags of luggage was on this table. The employees didn't speak much and we didn't really know what the hell was going on. The one lady opened my luggage and had me sign my name on some paper. I had to ask if we could leave where we then proceeded to get past security. That line wasn't terribly long but again, we encountered the no-personality security ladies. We had to show our passports and boarding passes, take off the shoes and we had to get a pat down and I had to empty my pockets even though I had no metal in them, just loose dollar bills and receipts. At this point it is about noon and everybody is basically in a big room with a few gift shops and some hokie bar/grill thing. We really could have gotten there an hour or so later but it was kind of good we got there early since it did fill up quickly and it was pretty much standing room only after a while.
This place got hot quick, and it was hard to maneuver around people and especially the ones with strollers. This place sucks! It needs to be twice the size. After sitting for almost two hours they had us board and we present our boarding passes and passports again..we are somewhat directed to a small area of disorganized mess where the security officers don't tell you what to do until you do something wrong then they yell at you like a bunch of pricks. Again our carry on items are searched, another pat down, glasses off, hat off, pockets emptied. I was really getting irritated at about the point where the carry on was being searched and my body language showed it. I didn't say anything but when the security guy told me to empty my pockets, take off my glasses and hat, in a rude, condescending way, I basically threw some of my crap on the floor and some other crap on the chair next to me and just stared at him. He immediately left without saying anything and went behind me to talk to another security officer. Either another guy came back over or it was the same guy, they all looked the same to me, and asked me if the glasses and hat on the floor were mine, I said yes and then he asked me to raise my arms for the pat down. I gathered my crap and got on the plane. I found most of the security officers to be either rude, not helpful, or without personalities or any combination thereof.
We were only 20 minutes late taking off. This is kind of where the whole Beaches thing really ends. After this I am in the states and it has nothing to do really with the Turks island anymore. I will say that in my haste to make my connection in Atlanta to my next flight, I left my two month old, expensive cellphone at security. I didn't have time to go get it. Good thing I had insurance since it is in Atlanta right now and I am in Seattle.
One more thing about the Kitty Kat cruise that we took and I posted about. It was a fluke that we got on the cruise. After almost two weeks of being there and having several snorkel trips cancelled on us due to weather, we lost track of the days and times of what days things were and times. When we showed up at the dock at 9:45 am we thought we were going on the concierge snorkeling trip. We had our days mixed up. We simply saw a big group of people walking from the concierge area to the boat as we approached the dock. I asked a guy if this was the snorkeling trip and he said yes. The wife and I got on the boat thinking we were just doing the regular snorkeling. At that point we had not done the regular snorkeling yet. We got suspicious that perhaps we might be on the wrong boat after an hour or so. Based on what we had seen, it seemed a little over the top to have a concierge cruise that had food and drinks and lasted 3.5 hours yet they want to charge you $9 for the cashews in your concierge suite. So, in the end, we ended up with a free cruise. Nobody ever asked for a room number or had a list of people on the cruise as we boarded.
